My First Half-Marathon Experience

Waiting at the top of American Fork Canyon for the race to begin at 6:00 am. It was pretty chilly up there but very beautiful!

Miranda, her friend Kim and I ran the whole time together and it was really fun to have great people to run with and talk with the whole time. The first 8 miles or so seemed to fly by because it was through the canyon and was so pretty and the weather was perfect. The last few miles felt a little tougher and by the last mile or so I was ready to cross that finish line and get my big awesome medal :)

At the finish line they had water bottles, wet towels, Kneaders french toast and fruit, popsicles and they handed out our medals. It was my first half-marathon and it felt like a great accomplishment.
Miranda is my good friend that I work with and do Activity Days with so we had a lot of fun running together to train and prepare for the race.

I just love my medal :)

This race is really cool because 100% of the entry fee goes to helping cancer patients in Utah County. There are a lot of great sponsors for it so there is no overhead cost. This year they raised more than $250,000 for cancer patients. I think there were 2,600 people that ran the half-marathon and another 2,400 or so that ran the 5K. It was just a really cool atmosphere to see so many people there running for cancer patients. Some were cancer survivors and some were running for family members who currently have cancer or had cancer. It was just an all-around cool race.

This was my bib and the shirt I got for running.

I haven't decided if I want to run another half-marathon. Miranda is convinced I will want to do another soon and that I will decide that I want to keep getting super cool medals :) I guess we'll see. If not another half-marathon I think a 10K is a great distance and 5K's too.
